The Well Woman screen includes a full history and risk analysis, complete physical examination including breast examination and cervical smear, and comprehensive range of blood tests and urine analysis. Tests include a full blood count to test for white cell, red cell and platelet abnormalities and tests for anaemia including ferritin, vitamin B12 and folate levels; biochemical profile of kidney, liver, bone metabolism, uric acid for gout, CK test for muscle enzymes, thyroid function and a hormonal profile which tests for menopause and menstrual irregularities.

We encourage regular cholesterol checks and can advise on diet and lifestyle and when appropriate an ECG (electrocardiograph testing) can be performed.


Both doctors and the nurse provide contraceptive counselling. The doctors prescribe a wide range of contraception. Dr Yvonne Rafter performs all Intra Uterine Contraception Device (Mirena Coil) insertions.

The practices are registered with the National Cervical Screening Programme which provides free cervical smears for women living in Ireland aged between 25 and 60. In order to avail of a free smear, it is necessary to register with CervicalCheck. Click here to register or Freephone 1800 45 45 55.

If you wish to have a smear done privately (ie. outside the screening programme) or outside the suggested screening intervals, a fee will be incurred.

We advise routine mammography in women age 50 to 65 and interpret all results. For more information click here


STI screening is performed at both surgeries by either the doctors or nurse. This includes Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, Herpes, Genital Warts, Trichomonas Vaginalis testing.

All STIs are treated by the doctors in both clinics.

It is important to visit the doctor as soon as you discover you are pregnant.

Combined ante natal care allows you to be under the joint care of your GP and a hospital obstetrician. Six pregnancy related visits and two week and 6 week baby checks are included in this scheme. The HSE covers the cost of these visits.

We can arrange appropriate referrals for patients who choose private or semi- private ante natal care.
